Written by Martin Hollinshead, Hawking with Golden Eagles is a good book because it details much of what is needed to fly one of the most prestigious birds to the sport. It is also a good read for those who wish to cross reference it with techniques that may be suitable for their own birds, which of course may not be golden eagles. I for one really like the part in this book about intimidation from the birds, and that they can try to intimidate the falconer and control the situation. Of course Hollinshead lays down the law here. LOL.

I got a personalized, signed copy of that book from Martin when it was first printed. It was a good read but had little information on the actual training of golden eagles. If memory serves me correctly, towards the back he mentions that most of the memmoires were gone that specifically described the training techniques that were used. The big thing I remember is him mentioning that the birds were "waked" to exhaust them to calm them down for the first few days.

He does talk about furniture considerations as well. One thing that escapes me though is Hollinshead's amazement at the lack of enthusiasm for golden eagles insofar as falconer's are concerned. The reason I say that is because it's usually permitting, and legislation that keeps eagles out of the hands of most falconers, not lack of interest.
