For some reason I never knew that hood color has anything to do with the kind of quarry your bird catches. For instance, red is for ground quarry, green ducks, or flying, ect. I'm not sure if those are accurate, but I'm sure each local falconry group has, if at all, colors that designate different types of quarry that the bird wearing the hood takes. List here what your color codes are for your hoods if you have any. Also if you can elaborate on the history of this tradition, that would be very helpful as well.

I have never heard of this in my entire falconry career! If it does exist it is a new thing. Falconers simply get good fitting hoods in any color and the colors have always been for our personal visual appeal. I have hoods that are black, tan, red and green. Colors had nothing to do with hunting! LOL

Apparently there are falconers that take that idea quite seriously. I didnt know anything about it either. I suppose it would be useful if you were carrying a cadge full of falcons that fly on different quarry.
