I'm not planning on pigeon or barn hawking, but its been highly debated on another forum and am curious of the opinions of you guys, also I'm trying to get something going here since nobodies been talking the last day. I vote option three even though I do not plan on doing it, only because I don't know anywhere that I could do it.

Rob, you're my new bitch! LOL Why are we poking me in the eye??? Anyway I let my birds take pigeons all the time. Reguardless of what type of bird they catch, they can get frounce and trich from most of them, specifically pigeons, pheasants, chukar and quail along with sparrows and starlings. If your bird takes one just treat it with Spartix as if it has frounce or if your bird does get it, treat it. Once they have it and it is treated and cured, they never get it again because their body has built the antibodies against the organism! People do the same thing, we get sick, treat it and never get it again.

I dunno if frounce is one that is like that, but from what I have heard many are not. I would like to know if what I have heard it true though.

All of my avian vets, 5 of them, have all said that once a bird gets frounce, asper or trich and it is cured that they do not get it again. We have a lot of ferral pigeons around here and inevitably we'll be in the field hunting jacks and the bird will take a pigeon that it sees. Once the bird has been treated I have never had a bird get re-infected!

Yes, true, but i still just dont want to risk it. Not only that, but really, you need to be in barns and such for a RT to catch a pigeon. Truthfully, it becomes unsporting after a while.

I've never done that in a barn. My birds have always got the wild ones out in the field. Barn hawking pigeons, might be kind of fun, would be simular to pallet hawking with a kestrel, merlin or sharpy.
